UFO Sighting - Decatur, Alabama

Alright, now this one is close to home for me, since Decatur is only about an hour's drive from where I live. So naturally, this one caught my eye right away.

(There is a video at the site).

From WSFA 12 News in Montgomery, Alabama:

What was it last night around Decatur that had people talking?

Friday night and into today, our newsroom has been flooded with people inquiring about a strange sighting in the western sky.

What did people see?

What we do know is that an object was in the sky that night. What it was is the focus of tonight's WAFF 48 Investigators Report.

"I saw it coming thru the sky back that way and it".

Cody Terry was driving by the Aquadome Recreation Center Friday night in Decatur when he happened to look up in the sky and he notice something strange.

When it was coming through the sky, I really thought it was an airplane that lost control so I came to a complete stop on the road. When I got out and looked at it was no sound coming from it."

No sound, and he says it didn't appear to be an aircraft.

"It speed up to maybe two hundred miles per hour it went straight to the ground and disappeared."

Some people say they saw Med-Flight back here but some people say they saw something else.

Cody says he saw three military helicopters in the air and ambulance on the ground.

"We saw what was in the ambulance and to me it looked like what was a giant pearl and it was shiny. It put off kind of like a diamond type reflection on it"."

For now what ever was in the sky will remain a mystery.

WAFF 48 talked to the director of Med-Flight about an hour ago and he did confirm they had one helicopter in the area and no other helicopters were in the air around that time.

  1. I had a similar sighting last night around 8:00 PM. I live just outside Decatur. I heard, but never SAW a helicopter fly over. While I was searching for it, I saw what I thought was a star. It appeared to be falling slowly. At first I thought it was just an optical illusion, so I moved to get my house into my field of view, and it was slowly moving downward. I went inside to get my camcorder and when I got back out, it was gone. (Yeah, I know, typical...)
I wonder if the military is dropping flares or something? It was just a glowing ball of light.

  2. Hey Gummerfan, don't ya just hate it when that happens? I have yet to get anything on film either. :(

Is there a military base down there? I mean besides Redstone in H'ville?

No telling what it could have been. Maybe it was a meteor, but then, it wouldn't have been falling slowly. So maybe it WAS a flare.

  3. The Redstone/NASA stuff is the only real military presence around here. However, I'm just down the road from the United Launch Alliance/Boeing plant, and just across the river from the Browns-Ferry Nuke plant.
The object I saw was no meteor, it was way too slow. Since I didn't get to see the whole event, I don't know if sped up like the Decatur sighting or not.

  4. Well, it's hard to say what it could have been. Perhaps it really was some kind of craft. There have been so many UFO sightings lately around the country...major ones too. Ones that hit the news media. I saw something the other night here in the skies of Lawrenceburg that was very strange, but I wasn't able to keep up with it. My husband was driving and he said it was a helicopter, and it may have been, but it didn't look like one to me. If I had been driving, I would have followed it as best I could to get a better look. Oh well. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog. I hope you'll drop in again from time to time.

  5. I'm baffled by the lack of media coverage on this story with the eyewitness Cody Terry describing people putting the object into an ambulance. The WSAF tv station does not give the entire account of what Mr.Terry saw that night.Go the website www.earthfiles.com to read his full account of event and that he know's someone who may have a video of object taken at the time of incident. Why didn't the new's station WSAF go and interview the ambulance driver's/paramedic's and ask them what they found and put in the ambulance?I e-mailed Larry King(CNN) to try and interview the eyewitness, everyone should do the same to get some answer's.

  6. I most certainly DID hear that guy say he saw them load an object into an ambulance. I saw it on the news the next day! I have wondered what came of that...because I have seen nothing else about it. Thanks for the link, Anonymous!
